What is Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy is a non-painful method of health treatment used by our Noble and Illustrious Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) on many occasions for different conditions but specifically for pain relief.

It is unanimously accepted that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) undertook cupping therapy and advised other people to do so.

Hadrat Jaabir (ra) reports that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) stated “verily in cupping there is cure” (Buckhari Shareef).

The Holy Prophet (pbuh) also stated that “if there is any good in any treatment then it is in Hijaamah treatment” (Abu Dawood Shareef).

The earliest record of cupping is in Ebers Papyrus, one of the oldest medical textbooks in the world. It describes in 1,550 B.C. Egyptians used cupping. Archaeologists have found evidence in China of cupping dating back to 1,000 B.C. In ancient Greece, Hippocrates (c. 400 B.C.) used cupping for internal disease and structural problems.
